Seeing Stripes

We are finally finished with our guest bathroom redecorating project. The bathroom is the only room we have not touched since moving in 4 years ago. It was nice and well done, but it just wasn't us. We've been talking about redoing it for over a year now and we finally got around to doing so. First, let's see what it looked like before. (These are pictures from when we first got the house so it still has the old owner's things. But it looked exactly the same except for the towels and the picture on the counter.)

Again, it looked nice but that padded board with that green swag was much to be desired. And since the bathroom was designed by the old owners, it definitely didn't feel like "us." So, a few months ago, I thought it would be a great idea to paint the room blue. A sea blue with a little green and I was going to decorate it with orange accents to really make the room pop. Ughh....didn't really look great. I didn't like it. Wilson hated it. So I scoured the internet looking for ideas on what to do next. Then I came across this from Young House Love. I remember seeing the exact same thing done on "Design Star" awhile ago and loved it. I brought the suggestion to Wilson and we gave it a go. Although it wasn't hard, it was definitely tedious to measure, level and tape each line but we're really happy with the results and love our new guest bathroom. We also got rid of the green swag and made a tall shower curtain that looks much cleaner.

The pictures above make the colors a little washed out looking. I think the color is more like this in person, but a little less yellow.

In addition to painting the room and putting up the new shower curtain, we also resurfaced the tub and toliet to get rid of the nasty hard water stains that made it look like we never cleaned. It feels like we have a brand new bathroom! The bathroom still needs some accessories to give it a little more pizazz and personality but it's definitely going in the right direction.
